The Biot Flavilinea
A variation to fool the trickiest trout
By A.K. Best
In flight, the Flavilinea looks just like a Green Drake except that it's one size smaller, so it goes almost without saying that it is easily misidentified. You really need to catch one to notice the differences. Trout in heavily fished waters at Green Drake time sometimes prefer the smaller Flavilinea. I tie my Green Drakes on a Mustad 94831 size 12 hook and my Flavs on a size 14 94831. There are some minor color differences in the tail and hackle, but when you're fishing for educated trout, these minor variations become major considerations at the tying bench.
