Note to All Participants
By Ted Williams
This blog, along with my ailing computer, will be down and inactive for the best part of next week -- March 27-31. However, please continue to post your comments. All comments must be checked by me before posting, and this I will do as soon as computer and blog are up and running again -- Sat. at the very latest. Thanks, and have a good week.
Best,
Ted

Hi Ted. Have you looked at the Kennecott mine proposal for the UP of Michigan? Open pit mining on the Yellow Dog Plains north of Marquette. To be built on top of the Salmon-Trout river aquafier - home of one the last US runs of coaster brook trout in Lake Superior. Sierrra Club and private club on the Salmon Trout just petitioned for coaster on the endagerd speices list to protect the stream. Not likely. Marv Robertson is Sierra Club contact in Michigan. Although TU has yet to take a stand, Rich Bowman at MCTU (Michigan Council TU) can link you to websites and permit info. National TU is also looking at it. I'm a long time TU guy and am afraid they might say okay. Local folks and NWF also have internet sites with info - as does, of course, Kennecott. Dave Smethurst
Hi Dave:
I got into it a bit in my piece on coasters in the March issue of FR&R: http://www.flyrodreel.com/index.php/page/issues/sku/FRR2006_03/id/19064
I'd like to see someone devote an entire article to this. I doubt it will be me 'cause I've shot my wad on coasters for a while and need to focus on other national issues. It might make a good "Short Cast." You or someone should talk it over with our editors.
